No. Very bright red. The black and white photos make them appear black.Did flappers wear black lipstick?
No, but I can understand why you would think they did. Color photography wasn't invented until 1957, so all of the surviving photographs or images of flappers were taken in black %26amp; white photography, wherein their lipstick appears to be black when it is really crimson red.
The answer is they wore SCARLET colored lipstick.

Look at the 1920s flapper section for more specifics.
Most red lipstick in those days show black--it would have been deep crimson.
